Getting Started Homeschooling

New to homeschooling? First of all – Hooray!

Homeschooling is a big step and I’m sure you have a lot of questions and concerns. If you are new to homeschooling, or in the process of considering, let me just say, spend some time praying and researching. It can be an amazing experience for your entire family, but like most child related undertakings, it’s good to take a moment to prayerfully consider how this new arrangement will work on a day to day  basis. You can read below how my family ended up homeschooling and I certainly wish I’d taken my own advice!!

I’m purposefully not going to get into curriculums in this section. There are a lot of amazing options out there. The beauty of homeschooling is that works for one family, might not be the right fit for you – but I can guarantee there is one that will fit like a glove. So before we start talking books, styles, and those goodies, lets talk about homeschooling in general, and about Classical Conversations.

There are hundreds of websites out there who can give you the ins and outs of homeschooling in PA. A few that I find helpful are:

  • How to Start Homeschooling – I LOVE this. It is a step by step list for you.
  • The HSDA site – it covers the legal side of homeschooling
  • The PA Homeschoolers Support Group Listing –  its a little dated but can give you some great leads on groups in your area
  • This is a site run by the state and lets you know PA’s expectations.
